Not sure what you are defining as “Trumpism,” but if you are claiming that the Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox Christians who voted for conservative values only voted for “”Trump” and not for Christian values, upon which our country IS BASED, you are wrong. Also, get your data straight. There is no evidence suggesting Trump is a “child molester.” Biden, on the other hand, well, we have to question what is going on in his family. And what you atheists don’t understand is Christians aren’t going to disappear. Because the God of the Bible is not going to disappear. If you think you are Bigger and more authoritative than the supernatural Creator and God of the Bible, you have a problem facing you bigger than your politics.
The simplest test is when someone says “Trump did X bad thing”, could I insert any other president or similarly prominent figure and the sentence would still be true?
It’s really not good when someone like Rauch is talking about how abuse of pardon power is a problem and then yadda yaddas over Biden issuing absurdly broad pardons for his own family members and other political figures. Many such examples.
I know Josh knows who the Fifth Column people are, and their takes on this stuff, which is generally to call balls and strikes on both political sides, have been much more reasonable.
I genuinely enjoyed this episode. Found it wide ranging, thoughtful and most of all, I appreciated Josh’s admission that he might change his mind in time. Talk about epistemic humility!
People who have been calling anyone who disagrees with them a Nazi, bigot, racist, white supremacist, etc, etc for years & years, well before Trump came on the scene now complaining about the lack of civility in the public square. Spare me.
Admitted molester? Talk to George over at ABC about making said statements. When you come out the gate with that statement it reads like a lunatic suffering from TDS
Then we will see if it’s worth following your lead.
Get your friends at the View, MSM, the Squad and their Uniparty buddies to stop using terms like Nazi, Hitler, racist and white supremacy - honestly not sure they have any value by me thoughts worth expressing that don’t use those.
I finally listened to this.... Trump is no different from Biden in his cronyism, naming people for reasons other than qualifications.... hollowing out the rule of law? yes Biden did that.... using government to attack enemies? Biden did that too!!!
Rauch was virtue-signaling from the get-go, "listen to my contempt for Trump", adding in some patronizing words for conservative Christians.... Josh, you asked decent questions, but for me your credibility is damaged a little bit here by platforming a standard liberal NPC.
Religion protects people from bad ideas in the same way that cowpox protects someone from smallpox. The bad idea is still a virus in this analogy; some viruses are not that dangerous to humans and others are lethal. They’re all still viruses. Getting an education is more like getting a vaccine. Getting a woke education is more like getting a fake vaccine that’s actually just another virus.
The problem with 'Jesus is the answer' is that Jesus is a Rorschach inkblot that everyone uses to reinforce their own view. It's the height of naivety, after millennia of arguments (not to mention wars) over who Jesus was and what he stood for, to say that Christians just need to follow him 'properly' and all will be well.
As someone who grew up in a very religious family, who genuinely follows Christian values, I can understand the argument.
I personally find it very difficult to understand how and why the evangelical churches in the US could support Trump.
I hope Josh can learn a little bit more about Scandinavian culture and the levels of Protestant influence in counties like Norway.
I lived in Norway for a number of years and was very surprised that there is a VERY big difference between the rhetoric and spin and the reality of life and culture.
We AngloSaxons have swallowed the advertising and propaganda.
The reality of life in Scandinavian society is very different, especially outside of the biggest cities.
I will never forget watching an Amnesty International advert where the strap line was that in Norway one in four women is regularly abused by a man in their household. The next day I went into work and no one would discuss it.
Whilst living there I observed many, many examples of misogyny, sexism, racism.
This idea that Scandinavian society is some idillic panacea just shows you don’t understand how proud and nationalistic they are and how this affects how they present themselves towards the world.
Scandinavian culture has some wonderful attributes and I genuinely loved my time there but I always get annoyed when people present it as some perfect example when the reality is very different.
PS The reason Norway has prohibition still is because of the political power of the Christian Protestant political parties.

Well you need to accept that that there are people that don’t agree with your fairytale so it seems like a YOU problem
Quite rude and shows a terrible lack of insight. I bet you will say exactly the same to Muslim
It is potentially one of my least fav Josh podcasts - there are not many - this guy suffers from TDS, even worse than Sam Harris.

You first.

Projection seems to be their strongest suit.
Ooh!

I liked it when Josh corralled an American into using the phrase ‘bums on seats’.

Gotta say I went into this one with my dander up but really , really enjoyed it. Showed the nuance that’s needed for this stuff.
Also- it was good to hear you say that you’re more suspect of the ‘anti-woke’ way of thinking.
Despite proclaiming I didn’t want to resubscribe after your Alan woke episode I’m very very glad I’m still here. You’re doing good work Josh.
Very interesting listen.

Tough listen
