Love most everything. Especially when you’re engaging with a guest on a topic that you have some some stake in and that is of broader, social interest. Banter with comedians? Meh. The only thing that I truly hate is that you took down “Josh is on a boat.” You arguably have no right to keep this masterpiece from the public.

I agree with others in that all of the content is good & especially with Kylie, that IF I had to rank them, the archival content is probably my least favourite but I still listen to all of it. I find myself developing a serious, yet unrequited, ‘bromance’ for you Josh Szeps! You clearly ‘lean left’ which only amazes me more when you can be SO rational & sensible in your conversations with respect to various woke & ‘cancel culture’ behaviours & tendencies that are SO obvious in the various arms of the media, not the least of which is your daytime employer. Please keep up the good work!

The Soapboxes and the AMAs are where it's at for me. I think we like hearing someone who views the world through similar, critical, 'wait a minute, what the fuck is going on here?' glasses and airs those thoughts.👌🏻

Josh, I know this doesn’t accord with the title of the show but I think you should record more solo content. It is a fairly difficult skill and rarely done well in the podcasting world, and your efforts have been promising. In fact, most of the more indelible moments from your show, to my mind, have come from your monologues. My potted explanation for this is that you’re simply more forthright when you aren’t managing your language for the sake of a guest. In any case, I think you should continue in your explorations of the oral polemic.

If I had to make another suggestion, I would suggest hosting some debates. Often in discussions you are forced to ‘take the opposing position for the sake of argument’ over and over again in order to draw out the cracks in the argument of your interlocutor. This seems like an inefficient method: better to simply host a third person who will argue this side with conviction, rather than requiring you to posit their arguments in a ‘well what they would say would be...’ sort of way.

Keep up the good work.

I love all the content!! But if I was forced to rank them the archives would be lowest rank. But keep doing you. And I couldn't have loved the sphincter regime discussion more. Hard relate to Robbie.

Hey Josh, long time listener first time commenter.. Here is what I have been enjoying recently -

- Josh’s Soap Boxes, where I rant about what’s on my mind, like JK Rowling and other Nazis;

- AMAs, where I answer your listener questions; and

- Deep Questions, a chance for some levity on the feed via shit talk. Literally.

Not a big fan of The Archives, I’m a bit of a snob about past episodes I prefer current episodes just feels fresher for some reason (See Snob)

I am really enjoying the radio show to; I never knew it existed until I became a subscriber.

What I would like to hear are stories that appeal to the every day man. I’m talking about conversations with people who are doing it tough in Australia (doesn’t just have to be AUS I'm not that guy) people who can barely pay their rent because of the ridicules prices of rental properties, why I can’t buy a decent apple at Woolworth or any decent fruit at Woolworths AND Coles (why aren’t more people talking about this!) do you remember how nice apples used to taste? Why is the NDIS so unfair for some and for others it’s as if they have won the lottery? Why people are uncomfortable in their own skin and why we don’t talk to each other like some cultures do so well? Why teachers are saying kid’s are misbehaving more now then they ever have before and why do we not try and address the roots of kids behavior which more then likely has something to do with their home life/up bringing (teachers are more then just teachers they are life coach's and need to work side by side with social workers to get the bottom of these issues, kids arn't born ass holes) Stuff like that.

I am really enjoying the show though and appreciate all the efforts you put in.

Mr Szeps,

I say this to you with the utmost respect and admiration: don’t solicit advice (especially mine). The irony of that previous statement isn’t lost on me, but what attracts me to your products is you. It’s your mind, your curiosity, the way you are mentally navigating through these murky quandaries. I respect the fact that this is a new venture, and I can’t begin to wrap my head around how unnerving or awkward it may feel. But my guess (and it’s only a guess from a rube like myself) would be that following your own interests would best suit you. When it comes to the 1-4 hours/week where I spend my time listening and reading your work, I prefer to enjoy it the way I enjoy my sushi: omakase! I truly appreciate your podcasts and articles. You’re a seeker and a kindred spirit. Be well, good sir! And thank you.

I listen at 1.5 speed but when you do the first date questions I switch it back to normal speed so it feels like you and your guests have just smoked a joint and trying to have a conversation while baked.

WHAT YOU LIKE: Josh’s general musings about everyday life

WHAT YOU HATE: Nothing. I’m easy to please.

WHAT YOU WANT: More discussions about social media/the internet and what effects it has on kids attention, reduced playtime outside, physical health like posture, eye health etc. I’m not a parent but I’m fascinated with the changes in childhood “playtime” in the past 30 years and how controlled and sanitised it seems nowadays. My friends and I were constantly climbing trees. I can’t remember the last time I saw a kid climb a tree.

Seriously guys… if you’re going to talk (about) shit please don’t be such Sunday School teachers and call it “poo”. Happy to keep supporting you. I’m an OG paid subscriber but I have no interest in Twitter and have no idea how to crash your online cocktail party. But to be fair, I wouldn’t invite me either… cheers ya poo poo heads.

I love it all!

My favourite is Josh's rant. I wasn't so keen on the Deep Questions last week.

I often listen to your ABC interviews (and Archives) which are great. Any chance you can get some of the regulars, esp Joel Pearson and Emile Sherman/Lloyd Vogelman, onto your podcast more often? Basically, clever people with open minds and interesting things to say!

Thanks.

Big fan Josh and avid listener of your radio show and podcast. I'm a fan of Sam Harris so love interviews you have done with him and with some of the same guests he has had on his podcast. I most enjoy your musings and rants and take on current events. The AMAs are excellent, more of this. Deep questions- keen to see where you take this... Guests- love Tim Urban, Joel Pearson, Yascha Mounk- interesting, deep thinkers who leave me viewing things in a different way. PS. You must give Ted Lasso a go.. the writing is clever, layered and witty.

I really enjoy your content. In particular your longer conversations with interesting guests but I do also enjoy your musings on topical subjects, get a good sense of you being you and speaking your mind. Your podcast is one of the few that I have continued to listen to while many others that I used to be interested in have either fallen deeply into conspiracies or been totally and utterly gripped by audience capture. Shame to see so many interesting people churn out drivel week after week acting like they speak the “true” truth. Yours strikes me as a voice of considered and thoughtful reason and always in good faith. Keep it up 👍

I love the Soapboxes, I don’t care about the rehashed episodes because I’ve already heard them all, the AMAs are pretty interesting, and I definitely don’t even come close to hating anything.

I tend not to be wildly excited about the archive episodes. Some of them are good quality content, but a sense of contemporaneousness is important at least to my podcast experience.

Agree that the AMA’s would be better if they came from subscribers. I don’t do Twitter either.

The big picture question to me is that I want Australian-ness. I get that sometimes Josh feels compelled to talk about America or world politics, but there are probably more people with podcasts like that than there are people in Australia. For me, the irreverent tone, the outcast history of the country, the weirdly specific references to Australia things, those are why I bother to listen.

I’d like an AMA from the SubStack only- I’m not on Twitter at all and feel left out of the AMA’s... I love the soapboxes and you could do that regularly and rant harder and I’d love it. Deep questions are cool bonus points for controversy and the archive is fine to.

Well worth the cost of a Tallie a month 😄
