The guest talks about America-centric views of the world right after using a metaphor about driving through the woods in Mississippi, a place I assume he has never been (perhaps incorrectly). In my time in Australia, I found that Australians were more America-centric than us. They’d all refer to American TV shows I’d never watched, all had detailed opinions on American politics, make references to places in America they’d never been, etc.

Quickly, to the point about the supremacy of American (or English speaking) culture, just read an interesting article about Idris Elba relocating to Africa on exactly this point. Everybody recognizes New York v LA v Midwestern small town etc but conversely everybody just sees any place in Africa as “Africa” without any differentiation. And now can’t remember where I found the article but I’ll look…. Anywho great work Josh as always!
