Nashville would be a good place for Josh to visit, with his very New England-y view of the U.S.

Definitely a different vision of public health there.

It also has the best Australian cafe I have been to in the U.S., called Two Hands.

This is not on the river, however, and I agree that Australians, including in Brisbane, have made much better use of waterfront space.

I don't know that a lot of things in Nashville could be called underrated given how touristy the city is. The state museum, which is free and along a nice green stretch that leads to the capitol, is quite majestic and is one of the better state museums I've ever been to. For being known for fried chicken and other southern food, the city has a surprisingly robust vegetarian food scene and is overall quite diverse.
