I love you Josh. So many times I think something needs to be said about an issue, I open your podcast and it’s there! The uncomfortable conversation that needs to be had.

Rowling does not seem much more obsessed with the topic than a lot of feminist scholars are about their pet issues. Granted it might all be a sign of brain rot, but when you run into people on the daily with similar obsessions it loses a bit of its tingle. Scanning through her tweets, I feel more like yawning than making a note in my worry file.

The whole thing is infuriating and demonstrative of the circular firing squad and ceaseless purity testing of the left. No dissent, no criticism. You must obey the whims of a group of people confused about their own genitals.

Disagree (with Rowling) that the most important harms here are to women in single-sex spaces or to medical research or to sports. The most important issue is the compulsion imposed upon people who aren't trans and have nothing to do with trans ideology to say things that aren't true.

Rowling does give a convincing account of why it's worthwhile for her to keep talking about this bizarre niche issue: because it inspires others.

Thank you Josh for presenting this thoughtful and nuanced view of a controversial subject. Encouraging us towards a more balanced and compassionate way of approaching the issue of trans rights based on research and understanding rather than prejudice and ideological group think.

She spends WAY too much time caring about trans people. I understand the annoyance with activists. Lunches with TERFs, she talks the gender critical talk, and she just seems a little preoccupied.

Definitely uncomfortable listening to this very bad take on JKR, and also your bad take on how the gays should behave.

Hi Matthew, could you expand on how this was a ‘bad’ take on JKR please. It seemed quite fair to me as Josh was careful to say that she was too obsessed by the issue and needed to quit Twitter then read her blog piece unedited. I’m genuinely interested to hear what you found uncomfortable and bad about what she wrote there. I also didn’t hear him say that gays ‘should’ behave in any particular way so also keen to understand what you heard and object to there, Thanks
