The mandatory food safety training that happens in Europe and Australia also happens in America, contrary to Gary's statement. Admittedly, I haven't compared in what is considered food safety training in America vs Eu/Aus. But, it's not true that American's don't get any food safety training, especially for school cafeteria's. Also, I'm not sure what higher miminum wages has to do with getting food safety training, it's typically standard practice to train food service workers wherever they're hired.

It's harder to track because these are state laws so there are fifty different versions of this, but yes, in general I think the number of certifications required in American restaurants and food vendors is quite high. Recalls, which aren't that uncommon, are a huge loss for a company.

Also, one has to bear in mind that Americans are quite litigious, and we are likely to make a lot of trouble over any sickness that can be blamed on someone.
